Tokyo: Judoka Naohisa Takato won the first Japanese Olympic gold medal on Saturday with a victory in the men’s 60kg final in Iconic Nippon Budokan.
The 28-year-old child redeemed a disappointing bronze medal in Rio five years ago by bringing the host nation and running in a match with a victory over Yung-Wei.
Previously, the Japanese world number three Funa Tonaki suffered a painful defeat by Distria Krasniqi Kosovo in the women’s 48kg final.
But the conmphasm was the first match medal in his country.
Takato, world champion three times, the better a tense meeting with which, won three minutes and 40 seconds into the gold score.
