Jumbo Herd killed two villagers in Goalpara again

Guwahati: The herd of around 20 wild elephants brought in a catastrophe in the Fortress goalkeeper district that was the worst by Humans from Assam, killing two villagers in the Rangkuli region on a foggy Wednesday morning.
The forest officer said the flock approached the human residence of one of the nearest reserve forests.
“The two villagers went to drive elephants to save their rice before the herd could cause more damage.
Wild Jumbos suddenly attacked them,” said the assistant forest conservator, the destination division, Sushendra Das.
He said the villagers chased by Jumbos to the forest but the herd came to the head confrontation with villagers at around 16:30 a.m.
The victims have been identified as Mohini Mohan Basumatary (28) and Jamini Khaklar (52).
Then, the forest officials said the flock was hiding in the forest near the dudhnoi circle during the day.
Forest staff keep them.
“The herd is only about 500 meters from human residence.
It has moved from the place where the two villagers were killed,” said a forest official.
A few days ago, the Purpose District Administration downloaded Part 144 CRPC to keep villagers in the Lakhipur circle area limited to their homes after wild ivory, after killing two people in Meghalaya, found wandering in the fields.
Goalpara is one of the districts affected by the worst human conflict in Assam where wild elephants trampled nearly 20 villagers this year.
The reserve forest plantations in Dot Regency and Elephants continue to move out of this to find food.
