Kolkata: To remove the backlog, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is set to assign all Daily Allocation of Covid vaccine to the second dose recipient throughout the CVCS.
KMC plans to continue vaccination the first dose after the backlog is removed, especially for the age group 18-44.
Meanwhile, the dose allocation at the KMC clinic was dipped in 150 of 200 on Monday.
Although this will come as a relief for those who have taken the first dose of Covishield more than 84 days ago, there was no solution that was seen for those who took Covaxin 28 days earlier.
The Civic Health Department is worried about Covaxin’s than the second dose at a 38 KMC vaccination clinic where only the covishield is given.
A message was sent on Monday to the medical officer posted at the KMC vaccination clinic, asking them to order all allocations for the second dose recipient.
The message was needed as an allocation per clinic on Monday fell to 150 doses of 200 doses that remained constant in most clinics over the past five days except Sunday.
However, some clinics also received allocations of more than 200 doses on Monday.
“Because we have struggled to serve the second dose recipient, we might need to order 100% of vaccinations given to them.
Our current priority is to clean the second dose backlog that continues to grow.
The task becomes difficult every day passes because the supply demand gap arises From the scarcity of vaccines.
This has required a vaccine reservation policy, “said KMC health department official.
This reservation policy can lead to unlimited delays in vaccination for the age group 18-44, recognizing citizenship officials.
“We have planned to introduce citizen inoculation in groups 18-44 at our vaccination clinic.
But the scarcity of supply has forced us to delay the project,” said a KMC health official who took care of the vaccine supply to the KMC clinic.
The Civic body has sent SOS to the Ministry of Health, asking for more covaxin doses to clean the big second dose backlog.
“Whatever supply we receive from the State Health Department is very inadequate.
In the case of the Covishield, we struggled to bridge the gap.
But in the case of Covaxin, we are only helpless because the inventory is not approaching the request,” said a civilian health department official.
According to officials, the Daily Allocation of Covaxin only meets around 15% of requests.
