Kalaignar Memorial: CM Lays Foundation Stone

Madurai: Chairman of the Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin on Tuesday placed the foundation stone for the Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai through video conferencing from Chennai.
Library, Sprawling 2.04 Lakh square, will have eight floors.
Construction is expected to be completed in 12 months.
The site for the library is part of 2.70 hectares of land in New Natham Road.
This library, which will be the largest in the southern district, will be built at a cost of Rs 99 Crore.
Rs 10 Crore has been allocated to purchase books for libraries, which will include hard copies, soft copies and online magazines.
Another Rs 5 Crore has been set aside for the purchase of technical equipment.
3D images from the library were also released on Tuesday, showing that it would have eight floors, lifts, reading areas, audio visual rooms for the benefit of the blind and deaf people.
The source says it will be fully air conditioned.
Natural lighting for reading during the day will be an additional advantage.
The library will be well equipped to serve all parts of society, including academics, students, research scholars, youth, children and those who prepare for competitive exams.
Parking facilities will be made on the ground floor of the building.
