Lucknow: Kalyan Singh, who is the main minister of Uttar Pradesh on December 6, 1992 when the Masjid Babri was destroyed, died in SGPGI here after a prolonged illness on Saturday.
He was 89 years old and survived by a member of parliament and a grandchild.

PM Narendra Modi called him the voice of the Minister of Marginization and the house of Amit Shah said the country would be indebted to his contribution.
Up cm Yogi Aditityanh said his death as the end of the era.
Yogi, who was in the hospital when Kalyan was inhaled his last, announced a national mourning in the state.
“The last rite of Kalyan Singh will be carried out on the edge of the Ganga in Narora on the night of August 23.
There will be a public holiday on August 23,” he said in SGPGI.
Like cm, Kalyan remembered as a formidable administrator, especially during his first term of office between 1991 and 1992.
As a politician, he was considered the first BJP leader to take it beyond the image of the top caste party.
In such a way that the 2014 BJP experiment was successful, bringing together OBC non-yadav that supported it, still called “Kalyan Singh Formula”.
He began his political career in 1967 by winning the Atrauli Vidhan Sabha seat in Aligarh as a candidate Bharatiya Jan Sangh.

The term both, which began with experiments to share offices with BSP in 1997, were not spectacular.
When Mayawati pulled support after completing the 6-month period as CM, Kalyan saved its government by violating Congress.
A few months later, Governor Romesh Bhandari fired him after Jagdambika Pal claimed the majority.
