Jaipur: The Rajasthan government announced a mourning of two days on Sunday and Monday after the death of the former Kalyan Singh governor, who died in Lucknow on Saturday night.
He was 89.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
“All government offices, public sector businesses and institutions will remain closed on Monday.
Tricolor who will fly half-mast in all government buildings and no government program will be held, “the official statement said.
Singh served as the Governor of 2014-19 and only became the second governor to complete the full term of five years.
He had surprised everyone by announcing to bring down the ‘Excellency’ prefix from the name of the governor along with dropping the honorary guard during his official visit.
As a state university chancellor, he took interest in bringing transparency in the system.
He introduced a biometric presence at higher education institutions and was beaten during the standard feasibility criteria for the position of vice chancellor.
His five-point charter for smart villages was adopted by Varsities including free of tobacco, illiterate, crime, legal and uncleanliness cases.
He was then adopted by several universities in other countries.
Some of his decisions did not go well in the state government.
He directed the Varsities state to kill with robes and dresses at the meeting ceremony by referring to a reflection of the Imperial mindset.
Also, installing a statue of Swami Vivekananda and unfurled tricolor at each university was seen as a step to inject the sense of hyper nationalism in educational institutions.
