Kalyan: The color of the Ulhas river changes, MPCB collects samples

Kalyan: Residents and Social Workers on Monday complained to change the color of the Ulhas river because of industrial waste which was not treated between Apti Bhandara to stretch Kalyan.
The residents of the area, near the banks of the Ulhas River, shared photos of polluted rivers on social media demanding the Maharashtra pollution control board (MPCB) to be tested by water.
The river supplies water to more than 30 Lakh residents from Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur.
Many villagers on the banks of the river immediately take water from the river for drinking purposes.
Ravindra Lingayat, a member of Ulhas Nadi Bachao Kruti Samiti, “We want to apply for water directly from the river must avoid it because it can cause health problems and also want the authority to be examined where industrial waste that is not treated is released to stop.

Activists claim that the color of the river in a stretch of about 8 km has changed since Monday morning but MPCB visited at night to collect samples when the river color changed.
Another activist Shashikant Dayma voiced with pollution on the Ulhas River said, “After seeing a polluted river, we had called MPCB officials several times.
We even sent an email but the MPCB sent their team at night at 5:30 a.m.
when the river color changed normally”.
L L Waghmare, executive engineer Division MPCB Kalyan said, “The main probe shows that the river color does not change because of chemicals.
We have collected river samples and reports from the laboratory will confirm the reason for changing color”.
MPCB ​​officials suspect the resort approaching the river may have removed unprocessed water which could be a reason for changing water color for some time.
