CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan on Saturday announced that he is taking the additional responsibility of party general secretary and appointed new-office bearers.
The actor-turned-politician has taken this step as part of the course correction measures following the exodus of senior party leaders, including party vice-president Dr Mahendran, after the debacle of the party in the Tamil Nadu assembly election.
The party president, while addressing the office-bearers through video conferencing, announced that he would take measures to strengthen the party.
“The party’s untiring efforts in protecting the land, language and people of Thamizh Nadu and to further strengthen the party structure and also to take our policies and action plans to the people more effectively,” said Kamal.
He urged the party functionaries to extend their cooperation to the newly appointed office-bearers to get ready to face the local body elections.
Pala Karuppiah and Ponraj Vellaisamy have been appointed as political advisors, former IPS officer A G Mourya has been appointed as vice-president (organisation), Thangavelu as vice-president (implementation and activation), Senthil Arumugam as state secretary (information technology and public relations), Siva Elgano as state secretary (organisation), Sarath Babu as state secretary (headquarters), Sripriya Sethupathi as central governing body member and G Nagarajan as coordinator of Narpani Iyakkam wing.
They had contested in the assembly polls, said Kamal.
Kamal asked the party functionaries to get vaccinated.
