Tokyo: Discus Thrower Kamalpreet Kaur produced one of the best performances by an Indian at the Olympics, even in the qualifying round, when he managed to get to the ongoing game final after finishing here on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Kaur, competing in qualifying B, sent a disc to a distance of 64m in his third and final effort to become one of the only automatic qualifications for the final round, the other was Grantanie American Valarie (66.42m).
The final will be held on August 2.

The best throw is 64m, which with him hit a direct qualification sign for the final.
He was actually one of only two athletes in India which ended before the Defense of the Gold Medal Sandra Perkovic (63.75M) Croatia and ruled the world champion Yame Perez (63.18) from Cuba.
Perkovic meets the requirements in the third and Perez on the seventh.
But Seema Veteran Punia did it out after finishing sixth in qualifying A and overall 16 with the best throws below par 60.57m.
Kaur began with an effort of 60.29 million and then increases it to 63.97 million before the third throws of 64m.
Every competitor gets three throws.
Those who touched 64 million or at least 12 of the best players in two rounds of qualifying forward to the final.
The Punjab Athlete has been in an impressive form this year when he violates the 65m mark twice recently.
He threw 65.06m during the Federation Cup in March to break the national record and became the first Indian who violated a 65m mark.
Then in June, he improved his own national record with a throw of 66.59 million during the Indian Grand Prix-4 to sit in the world number six.
Jorinde Van Klinken’s season leader from the Netherlands failed to make the last round cut with a simple throw of 61.15m.
He has the best of 70.22m while Allman is the second best this year at 70.01m.
The punia, who had booked the last minute Olympic bed, was far below the season and the best personal value.
He threw his first throw and had 60.57m and 58.93 m in two subsequent efforts to exit what would be the last Olympics.
The 38-year-old Haryana athlete has managed to get to the Olympics on the day of the qualifying deadline with a throw of 63.72 million during the national inter-state championship in Patiala on June 29.
He had the best of 64.84m, his performance produced a way back in 2004.
He returned to act only this season after appearing for the 2018 Asian match in Jakarta where he won bronze.
The punia has been training outside the national camp, mostly in Russia and neighboring countries.
He came to Tokyo with his personal coach Alexander Sinitsyn who was with him in Jakarta.
It was the fourth Olympics of Veteran Discus.
He never qualified for the final round.
He made the Olympic debut in 2004 in Athens where he had the best 60.64m throws.
At the 2012 Olympics and 2016, he had a disappointing performance of 61.91 million and 57.58 million.
The punia has won a victory for countries in the Commonwealth and Asian games.
He has won each of the four CWG medals since 2006 – three silver and one bronze.
He also won gold and bronze in Asian Games 2014 and 2018 respectively.
