The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here’s written to the Prime Minister’s Office asking to contemplate payment of salary from ESI corpus into the personnel of MSMEs.
Isaac Vas, president of the Chamber pointed out many MSMEs aren’t in a position to pay wages to their workers because of the lockdown from Karnataka that began April 23 and has become into the next week of June.
He noticed that although MSME companies have been constantly remitting the statutory donations of EPF, ESI and the EMI donations, the pandemic and also succeeding lockdown has struck them hard leading to default of payment of wages also.
Vas said that payment of salary out of ESI corpus would considerably help workers in making their livelihood during the lockdown time since the companies are finding it hard to cover them.
“You might think paying 50 percent of their salary during the lockdown period in the corpus.
This would also assist the businesses to keep the work against visiting other areas or hometown searching for livelihood,” he included from the charm.
Observing that through those difficult times there’s a requirement to employ an appropriate remedy to increase the sinking businesses, he stated the Chamber recognized the ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) firm includes an excess corpus of why Rs.
60,000 crore accumulated over the span.
“These funds mostly belong to companies and workers who’ve been contributing within the time and might be utilized for this function,” he included from the charm.
