Kannur / Thiruvananthapuram: Kannur University in Kerala on Friday rejected the accusation of safronization which was raised by the opposition trade union for the inclusion of RSS ideologists in postgraduate courses and established an external panel to review controversial syllabus.
The two members’ committee, consisting of experts outside the university, were asked to submit their reports within five days and further decisions about the syllabus will be taken after that, said the Chancellor of the University of Gopinath Ravindran.
The University of Kannur has witnessed the protest which was heated by the opposition student union since Thursday against his decision to include parts of the leaders of RSS MS Golwalkar and Hindu Mahasabha Leader VD Savarkar in the postgraduate courses.
“This safronization accusation is completely unfounded.
If you increase charges like Kannur University, you can raise similar charges against Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi too.
V D Savarkar is included in the JNU syllabus too,” he told the media.

The inclusion of Savarkar and Golwalkar in the syllabus did not need to be seen as part of the Safonfonization Movement, Chancellor’s representative, who faced intense protest by trade unions on this issue, said.
“When part of their text is included in the syllabus, there must be texts from those who represent other ideologies that will help students compare both and develop critical investigations skills.
It was lost here which was the weakness I felt this syllabus,” Ravindran explained.
When asked whether the Minist of Higher Education R Bindhu was looking for an explanation from him about this issue, Deputy Chancellor said he had submitted a reply to the government.
The minister told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that it was dangerous that communal content found a place in an academic syllabus.

Kerala Students Union (KSU), Congress Student Wings and Muslim Student Federation (MSF), Indian Indonesian League Student Wings (IUML) staged protests on campus on Thursday for this issue.
