BENGALURU: Though the state government has disbursed Rs 3,000 Covid relief every day to 1.2 lakh of 2.3 lakh candidate drivers at Karnataka so much, many here would be surrendering their automobiles as they find it hard to cover the EMIs.
Last month, the authorities declared this one-time aid for autorickshaw, cab and maxicab motorists.
The transportation department obtained 2.3 lakh software through the Seva Sindhu portalsite.
“Additional disbursements are postponed because of technical problems such as mismatch in validation and bank account.
Some reports aren’t active and some aren’t connected to Aadhaar.
We are rectifying these problems,” stated a senior transportation department .
In May 2020, the authorities declared relief of Rs 5,000 annually for 7.5 lakh autorickshaw and taxi drivers but just 2.1 lakh made it.
Hit the lockdown, work-from-home structures and soaring gas costs, lots of cabbies are still staring at a bleak future.
A lot of people left wing occupations, took loans became cabbies when Ola and Uber started providers in 2012-13 once they guaranteed enormous bonuses.
But, driving for these is no more viable for most.
Registration of flights dropped to 1,099 from 2020-21 in 12,055 at 2019-20 and 13,980 at 2018-19.
The increase speed of taxis was 8.2percent in 2018-19, 6.5percent in 2019-20, and 0.5percent in 2020-21.
Now, there are 1.9 lakh stalls in Bengaluru.
Stress over credit scoreWith many motorists turning loan defaulters leading to low CIBIL scores, and they are concerned about not obtaining bank loans afterwards.
“Many vehicles have been captured by financiers and a few motorists have been surrendering vehicles since they’re unable to cover EMIs.
They have left Bengaluru to their home cities,” said taxi marriage leader Tanveer Pasha.
Credit Information Bureau India Limited (CIBIL) score reveals credit history including borrowing and repayment.
K Somashekhar, president, Namma Chalakara Trade Union stated:”Every day, a minimum of five cabs are captured by financiers and banking.
Driver’s earnings have decreased from Rs 1,000 per day to Rs 200-300.
This one-time government help isn’t enough to cover monthly rent and half of the candidates did not even receive it.
We have been asking the authorities to offer financing moratorium and relaxations to cover dues but there is no reply.” CH Venkatachalam, general secretary, All India Bank Employees’ Association, stated nationalised banks aren’t announcing accounts of creditors as non-performing resources but complaints largely pertain to private financiers.
