Karnataka: 10% of the population in the district of Uttara Kannada is still illiterate, said report

Karwar: According to the statistics of the Adult Education Department, Uttara Kannada, known as one of the most literate districts in the state, still has 10% illiterate.
The government has compiled many programs to eradicate illiterate in slums and back through the Directorate of Lok Shikshana.
However, the pandemic has hampered and delayed the implementation of the program.
According to the 2011 census, there are more than 2 illiterate lats at Uttara Kannada.
The 2021 census has not been carried out, hence, the exact number of illiteracy is currently unknown.
However, according to estimates, this district has a total of 173,953 illiterate after 2011, the government applies a number of initiatives to reduce illiterate.
Members of the Women and Gramme Gramme Group Panchayats, whose illiterate is brought under this scheme and is taught to read and write.
This has a positive impact on reducing illiteracy in the district.
However, it was stopped during a pandemic.
The lack of infrastructure and personnel also inhibit effective program implementation.
Therefore, staff cannot reach remote villages.
The adult education department has now issued a notification to continue work.
An official of the Adult Education Department stated that if there were people who were illiterate over the age of 18 interested in learning, he would be given assistance.
“The adult education department identifies illiterate and trains them to increase the number of literacy in this district.
Because the problem of COVI-19 and technical in providing teachers has created several problems.
This has been taken to government notice,” said Mangalalakshmi Patil, an adult district education officer .
