Karnataka: At this government school on Bantwal, Areca Farming helps generate decent income

Mangaluru: The higher elementary school government in Kadeshwale in Bantwal Taluk has begun to generate income through agriculture.
School staff planted 60 Areca trees four years ago, which now produces arecanuts.
Fruits and medicinal plants have also been planted on campus, which generates additional income for schools.
This school is located in a remote village on Bantwal, about 25 km from here.
The campus is spread over the hectare.
Because of its teacher’s efforts to rise M, students actively participate in agriculture on campus.
Half of the campus is covered with Areca and trees that produce fruit.
Close to 150 tree varieties, including medicinal plants, can be found on the school campus.
Four years ago, class VII students had planted around 60 Areca trees.
“I am happy to say that this year they began to produce Arecanuts and we expect good income,” said Bhaskar, a physical education teacher.
He has served at the institution for the past three decades.
Bhaskar added that his efforts had brought victory to school, because he had obtained a victory Green School Award or Hasiru Parisara Parisara Shale Mitra more than five times in the district.
Agricultural activities are treated by students.
The school has around 227 students who learn from LKG to class VII.
The benefits obtained from agriculture are used for school activities and for the development of the insulation.

This has encouraged us to plant and care for them, “said Headmistress Umavathi N.
The school has been there for 85 years.
Umavathi said that most school infrastructure had been dilapidated, and that there was a need for new buildings.
