Karnataka Govt Silens Bureaucrat so the ministers get the spotlight

Bengaluru: The Bomavaraj Bommai government, which promises transparency in the administration, has directed bureaucrats to refrain from talking about policy issues to media members.
This step followed complaints from several ministers that they did not mature because of publicity because the bureaucrats shared most of the information, according to the people who knew the secret of discussion in the government.
Section section of senior officials, including several additional major secretaries, is also rumored to be upset about the Junior Secretary monoposing the center of attention and developing followers online.
“Apart from the special provisions in the regulations and instructions of Karnataka Civil Service, some government employees on occasion have made statements in print, electronic and social media without compliance with the rules, which are violations of the code of ethics.
Officials must not leak information related to policy issues To the media without the government’s approval, “said a circular issued by the Secretary of Head P Ravi Kumar to all Secretaries, Head of the Department and Senior Official on September 18.
They asked them to ensure that they had to make sure that the message went down the line.
Kumar also instructed all bureaucrats to obey direction and maintain restraints for posting their views on social media.
Toi spoke with a number of senior and junior officials about the round.
One view that arises is that restrictions on making comments or statements can help bureaucrats, who want to remain in the shadows, avoid public accountability.
Some officials said that they would now comment on every development job only before their political boss – Minister or Chair of the Board and Corporation.
“Because many officials provide renewal of developments in their departments, the ministers cannot project their views in front of the media.
We are now forced to take the back seat because of the gag command,” said an IAS officer.
Other senior senior officers said that direction would affect the moral young official who wanted to highlight their good work.
Kumar said that the circular was not the gag command and it was intended to discipline guilty officials.
Some others in the government also said that the purpose of the round was only to prevent officers from airing their dirty laundry in public.
They quoted a recent knock between several officers.
