Karnataka: Haveri Farmers Pool in Money to Build 1.5km Road

Haveri: Appeal to selected representatives and district administration that failed to produce actions in the past five years, around 70 farmers have joined hands to build 1.5km asphal roads in the suburbs of Haveri by collecting their resources and money.
The source said the stretch would connect the old national highway 48 and bypass arms from new national highways outside the city of Haveri.
Soybeans, cotton, jowar, chaotic plants, corn and horticulture grow in a plot of 200-acre land between highways.
According to farmers, in the absence of motorized roads, it is very difficult to transport plants when the harvest season starts in a few weeks.
From a 2.5km stretch between the highways, about 1 km of the road turned out.
Winding breaks through agricultural fields and is lost from view.
Even though the road, after being ready, set to benefit 70 farmers, only 10-12 contributed to the expected project costs around Rs 6 lakh.
At least 10 farmers collect between Rs 10,000 and 30,000.
They have raised Rs 2 lakh so far and hope the rest flows into the campaign.
A Civil Contractor from the city has provided a free road builder machine for the project, which released two days ago.
DC Shettnavar told Ti that he had recorded this problem and said since the road was under the jurisdiction of the city council, he would direct his officials once more.
