Karnataka Hijab Row: Students hold on to request

Mangaluru: The six students of PU College government girls in the closest Udupi district have rejected the suggestion of the college development committee they chose for online classes if they insisted on wearing a hijab (Islamic hijab) in the classroom.
The girl had boycotted classes for the past four weeks because the college authorities refused permission for them to wear hijab in the classroom.
Overcoming reporters in Thursday, the students, who held protests, said wearing hijab were their constitutional rights and they did not want to attend ‘discriminatory online classes.
Karnataka ‘Hijab’ Row: Udupi College is directed to maintain the status entered about other girls from the community attending classes without headscarves, they say women do not advance because they face problems.
Education and rights are just as important, they said.
Udupi Mla Raghupati Bhat, also the chairman of the college development committee, on Wednesday said the education department had ordered the status quo in the dress code in the classroom.
The high-level committee has been formed by the Department to study the code dressed in universities in other states.
If they survive with their requests, they can choose online classes, he said.
