Karnataka: Leopard was found dead with chopped claws; 2 owned

Haveri: Forest officers arrested two men on Wednesday for killing leopards and cut their claws for their nails who took a great price in the black market.
Somappa Lamani, 56, and his son Santosh Lamani, 32, was treated at the Haveri District Hospital on Monday claiming that they were allegedly attacked by leopards in the Hanagal Taluk Forest area.
A day later forest officials found the leopardized carcass with the claws cut and nails were lost.
“The three-year-old Leopard woman was found in the Kamanahalli forest area on Tuesday, with her claws cut.
The needle suspicion pointed to Somappa and Santosh.
We bake them at their meeting with leopards near their farmland.
Santosh spilled the nuts and said that he and his friend Manjunath Lamani had cut the animal’s foot for his claws.
We restored four claws from Manjunath’s house.
Both were arrested and in court detention, “said RFO Shivaraj Matad.
The forest authority suspected that the defendant had placed a snare on their agriculture side by side with the forest, and the leopard was trapped in it.
“We investigated whether the defendant killed wild animals in the same way and whether more people involved in savage acts damaged large cats,” added Matad.
Somappa Lamani is still in hospital being treated for injury.
