Karnataka: Less than 20% tap connection in 7 districts

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Urban and Rural are among seven districts in Karnataka where even 20% of the target is not fulfilled under the mission of Jal Jeevan Center, which seeks to provide pipe water supplies to all households in 2024.
This is mainly due to lack of water surfaces Drinking and low ground water level.
Karnataka has convinced the center of carrying 61 lakh households in the rural Karnataka under the 10,000 crore tap water connection program.
Now, it is looking for ideas to install the severe water crisis in seven of 31 districts in the state.
The crisis district is Bengaluru Urban, rural Bengaluru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi and Bidar.
Total households in these districts that need to be associated with tap water are estimated at around 10 lakh or 16% of the total coverage that needs to be completed by 2023-24.
“Our biggest problem in these districts is the lack of surface water availability and poor groundwater level.
Chikkaballapur and Kolar have been under hydrological drought with a lack of consistent rain in the past decade.
There is no availability of ground water at shallow depths in place Places like Bengaluru urban and rural because of the exponential population flow, “said the rural development and secretary of the Head of Secretary Pancayat Raj Atheeq.
Resources said efforts were doubled to carry Yetinahole water to Kolar, Chikkaballapur, parts of the rural Tumakuru and Bengaluru.
Even if the project was tracked quickly, the situation could not improve in the next two years because the project could not be resolved in the window of that time.
Now, the government has been looking for ideas to overcome the problem of water scarcity and provides a connection of the 10 lakh households in the state.
Last week, the department held a workshop to produce new ideas to overcome the situation.
At the same time, the government has increased efforts to provide a connection to the 51 lakh of other households.
Rural Development and the Department of Pancrayat Raj has proposed to start 120 multi-village schemes to provide drinking water.
If approved by the Country Cabinet, the scheme will ensure the range of the majority of rural parts with surface water or groundwater resources.
