Karnataka: Music Therapy in Dimhans to bring comfort to prisoners

Dharwad: Music Therapy and Research Unit Dimhans, which was inaugurated by Dr.
Mahesh Desai, Director of Dimhans in the last week of July now officially began to do music therapy.
The first session was held on August 5, at the Vishranti Dhama building for inpatients who were diagnosed with depression and their family members by Dr.
Shridhar Kulkarni, Dr.
Manjunath B, and Dr.
Shanteri Pai.
Also present are nurses and student staff, and other employees from Dimhans.
This session consists of special ragas recommended for depression such as Darbari Canada, Brindavani’s nest, and Raag Yemen.
The form of active and passive therapy is used.
That session for one hour.
Other music therapy sessions were carried out on August 12 in the same place.
Music therapy is now planned as a regular intervention for hospitalized patients once a week every Thursday night.
For those who just know music therapy, it involves the use of specific ragas to address the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of a group or individual.
Darbari Canada, or only Darbari’s body, is a body in the Canadian family who is considered to come from carnatic music.
In 2019, Samarpita Researchers Chatterjee and Roan Mukherjee investigated the effects of Darbari Canada (Music Therapy Intervention) in psychological variables such as depression, anxiety and stress among elderly adults.
They asked participants to listen to the instrumental version of the body every day before going to bed at night for a total of eight weeks.
The results revealed two-month music therapy progressively and significantly reduced depression, anxiety, stress, and sleep problems in participants.
Brindavani Sarang or Brindabani Sarang, also known as Vridavani Nest or Sarang Raga, is Hindustan’s classic body.
Yemen’s body consists of seven records and is considered one of the grandest and most basic ragas in Hindustan’s music.
All of these ragas appeals to researchers about management of psychological problems.
Music therapy in India is still in a newborn stage, and needs to undergo strict research using a strong methodology.
Dimhans music therapy and research units intend to conduct systematic research trials to contribute to understanding of how music therapy has an impact on the body and mind of a person, and the differential effect of each body.
Steam units are vibrant and fully devoted to contribute to scientific knowledge about music therapy using Ragas India.
