Mangaluru: Demolition of a 156-year-old heritage school building in Nellatikte in Puture Taluk Dakshina Kannada has kicked controversy, after which Deputy Commissioner DK K v Rajendra has been looking for a report from the Ministry of Education.
The legacy structure was built by British East India Company in 1865 to meet the needs of schools in the region.
Jnanpith Awardee Drivaram Karanth also used the building to play directly and the villagers wanted the building to be restored as a warning museum after litterateur.
The building was destroyed overnight three days again by the school development and monitoring committee (SDMC) which claimed that the building was not repaired.
According to President SDMC Panchaksari, some of the buildings collapsed when they tried to do some repair work in the building.
The building was then turned on because it pose a threat to students because the school field was nearby.
Classes are not detained in the old building and proposals to restore buildings are waiting before authority.
After the commotion from literary fans and villagers on demolition, DK Deputy Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra has directed deputy director of public instruction (DDPI) and Chief Executive Chief Chief Zilla Pancayat to submit a report on the incident.
People claim that SDMC does not have the authority to make decisions about demolition.
They also did not tell the department concerned before dripping the structure.
DDPI has now searched for a report from an education block officer who has served the notification to SDMC and the Principal who is looking for an explanation of the situation that causes demolition.
