Mysuru: About 30% of the work for the statue of the ambitious 108-ft of the deepadiri vaddu near the MM Hills Temple in Chamarajanagar Regency has been completed.
Sri Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Regional Development Authority is building this idol with an estimated cost of Rs 20 Crore.
The authority proposes ropes, in addition to developing areas in the inheritance lines.
Sri Male Mahadeshwaraswamy Kshetra Development Secretary’s Authority of Jayavibhava Swamy said this project will reach 41 hectares of land.
“The 108-foot high statue includes a high replica of the 24-foot mountain.
In a mountain replica, we will develop a 2-storey museum where stories related to Malai Mahadeshwara Swamy will be told.
We will install many idols that explain the story of God, in this museum , “he said.
According to Swamy, other spotlight will include people’s village, an amphitheater, laser show, rope-way, etc.
“We have also proposed footsteps to reach this statue with an estimated cost of Rs 5 Crore,” he said.
“We believe that the works of this statue will be completed in the next 8-9 months,” he said.
MM Hills Temple is one of the most popular temples in South India.
Every day, thousands of worshipers from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and other countries visit this hill temple.
Ecological worries, activists are afraid that the proposed sculpture work can become an ecological disaster.
“If possible, it is better to drop this project by considering the ecology of all the stretch of this mountain,” said Activist Joseph Hoover.
“This project is not recommended in this field,” he added.
However, Jayavibhava Swamy underestimated the threat to the nature of the project.
“We added more green plants under the project.
At present, people cultivate in this field.
There is no green cover.
We will increase the green cover.
It won’t cause ecological problems,” he said.
