Karnataka: Struggle, Fear and Sadness Officials at the Front of Coronavirus

During a pandemic, some officers and health workers remain motivated and continue to provide their mandated responsibilities although the risks and challenges involved.
Towards the district is certainly not easy, especially when Covid 19 cases improved and the country is in the midst of a crisis of medical oxygen.
Erratic work schedules will have an impact on personal life.
TOI spoke to four women deputy commissioner to find out what is contained the battle against the pandemic in their lives: Must tackle maternal mortality: Chikkaballapur DC “When the first wave happens, my parents live with me, but by the second wave, my mother died.
Although my children, husband, and father support, with him, I lost my moral support and it was a difficult time, “Latha R recalls.
“I attended a conference on the day he died.
He was admitted to hospital before it.
I took the day off and go back to work the next day.
I did not even get time to grieve, “he said.
“Chikkaballapur, into a rural district, we have our own challenges during the first wave.
Not having a medical college or private hospital only add to our woes, “he said.
Stay away from the baby years were difficult: DCFor Mandya Mandya DC Aswathi S, to stay away from her toddler definitely a challenge.
“Not just us, but all the women health workers, anganwadi and ASHA workers have been through hard times and need to get their priorities right.
But have family support back home make people feel stronger.
I am lucky to have my in-laws to take care of my son Arjun Savyasachi, who has just completed one year, “he said.
Aswathi even tested positive for Covid-19.
“I had no symptoms but had to spend 14 days in isolation.
At that time, I would see my son from the garden, and she would cry at me.
Despite all odds, I never took a break from work, and even during the period of isolation, I attended all the meetings via video conferencing, “he recalls.
Struggle same for men and women: Kalaburagi DCThere no gender difference when it comes to work, as the struggle for men and women is the same during a pandemic, said VV Jyothsna Kalaburagi DC.
“Sometimes, there is a lot of guilt that we are not able to provide sufficient time for our children.
For example, my son is 8 years old understand my responsibility to the community, but the children were 4 years old missed me a lot when the second wave hit us like a tsunami.
I am fortunate that my in-laws and parents were there for me and my family, “he said.
Jyothsna recalled that when her brother had tested positive Covid in neighboring countries, he also had a difficult time arranging to bed ICU.
“Going through the pain that helped me understand the pain Covid patient’s family is going through,” he recalls.
“As a district, we learn a lot from the first wave and during the second wave, we stuck to the basics – testing, tracking and treatment.
We were able to bring the situation under control as contact tracing is 30 for every single patient.
We knew the deceased by name, and it was more than mere numbers to us.
Meeting with doctors including private practitioners every day to help us understand the crisis better, “he said.
“It’s all about coordination and trust with subordinates.
Everyone is going through a crisis, but we managed to sail this phase successfully.
However, the battle is far from over.
We will do our best to beat vaccination doubt, “said Jyothsna.
The family stood by us during a difficult time: Yadgir DCYadgir DC Dr Ragapriya say it was very challenging with the second wave hit hard everywhere – especially in rural areas that are not equipped to handle the large influx of patients.
“I remember waking up every day anxious about the affairs of the day.
There are a few instances when I have to stay back late 2:00 or 3:00, “he recalls.
“However, in terms of infrastructure, hospitals and bed capacity, the district is not equipped to fight the second wave.
We have to put in more efforts to enhance the capacity of the bed, “he said.
It was challenging to Ragapriya, the mother of two children – Gautham Karthik Sai Siddharth 8 years and 2 years, being away from home for the final hour.
Her husband became DC Venkatesh Kumar from Raichur, can not help much with the family affairs, he said.
“We hardly had time to talk to each other after work and every time we met, mostly ranging discussion of work,” he added.
Ragapriya mother moved with the couple during the time to take care of children.
“Our family has always stood by us during this difficult time, especially my mother,” he said.
