Bengaluru: South Western Railway has covered large stones along the 250m stretch between Toppur and Sivadi Stations on the Byappanahalli -Salem route.
“Big stones in this section are covered with metal mesh and rock burns as protective actions” said the head of SWR (responsible) e Vijaya.
SWR sources say there are about 10 km from the vulnerable part between Salem and Bengaluru and the steps have been taken to prevent large stones from falling into the track.
“We have decided to take a job based on war footing,” another official said.
The SWR has also decided to intensify patrols during the rainy season and also post guards in vulnerable locations.
Last month, around 2,350 passengers on the Kannur-Yeshwantpur Express ships had a narrow escape after large stones fell on Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu.
Seven coaches slipped between Sivadi and Muttampatti in the Omalur-Bengaluru section.
