Karnataka will oppose the river liaison scheme

Bengaluru: arguing that the scheme in its current form will eliminate carnataka from the share of water, the state government says it will oppose the project that connects the river mentioned in the UN ion budget 2022-23.
“This center said he would continue with the interlinking scheme of Cauvery, Krishna and the Pennar River if there was a consensus among countries in the DPR (Detail Project Report),” said Minister of Basavaja Basavara.
“We need clarity that we will get our water share.
The House of Representatives was prepared by the Government of UPA, which he said Kar Nataka shares were reduced.
We have objected to him in the past and our stand will continue.” Godavari-Krishna, Krishna-Pennar and Cauvery-Pennar Is among the five schemes that connect the Sitanaman Union Fiancea Minister who mentioned in his budget speech.
He said the DPRS is ready and the center will provide support to implement these projects after consensus is reached among recipient countries.
However, experts say Karnataka will not benefit from this scheme because no of them passes the country.
Captain King Rao, an irrigation expert, said the center instead applied the Peninsular River Development Plan (PRD) which imagined Interlinking Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and the Pennar River.
Under the PRD plan, Mahanadi and Godavari surplus will be transferred to Krishna, Cauvery and Pennar.
“While Karnataka will get 150 TMC FT (thousands of millions of cubic feet) under the PRD plan, the country will not get water under the central scheme now talking about.
So, we must oppose it,” said Captain Rao.
He said there were two schemes to connect Krishna and Pennar under the plan PRD: One, from the Almatti Dam in Karnataka to Pennar in Tamil Nadu and the others from the Srisailam Dam in Andhra Pradesh to Pennar in Tamil Nadu, but the Almatti-Pennar scheme has fallen .
“Likewise, the Cauvery-Pennar River Liaison project mentioned in the budget is located outside the Karnataka border.
And therefore there are no projects that are beneficial to us.” He said.
Mohan Katarki’s senior advisor, who appeared for Karnataka in a river water dispute at the Supreme Court, said: “The proposal to post a river and transferring a surplus of water from Godavari to Krishna to Cauvery is the right decision.
However, the surplus of water must increase the same for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
