Bengaluru: After a lack of dosage, the country now faces a lack of 0.5 ml syringes that are widely used – and preferably – to manage anti-covid-19 shots after supply from the center out two weeks ago.
Late last year, the center has booked with two companies – Hindustan syringes & medical devices and iscon surgery – for more than 230 million syringes, but it seems to have run out.
The state authority now supplies several districts with 2ML syringes, while other districts are dipped in stock buffers.
Health workers are afraid that larger syringes can cause a dose spill.
Tii Health Office officials spoke by confirming short supply.
They even revealed a larger syringe used during special inoculation drives on September 17 because the government did not want the supply problem inhibiting the drive.
0.5ml LDS (low dead room) syringe is tended to vaccinate covid because health service workers involved in giving doses can easily extract the exact dose of 0.5 ml from the bottle, so there is almost no waste.
“The nurses involved in the Covid-19 vaccination drive already worked too much,” said a district health officer.
“Inject 0.5 ml helps them quickly attract the right number of vaccines.
Now, when drawing a 0.5ml dose in a 2ml syringe there may be an assessment error.
They can draw more than 0.5ml and this can cause waste.
But we don’t Have a choice but to use what is given to us.
“Managing more than recommended doses can also affect some beneficiaries.
Several deputy deputy commissioners have raised a short supply problem at a meeting with the main Minister of Basavaraj Bommai recently.
With drive vaccination taking steps, the state requires at least one cross-syringe a month.
Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday, when Karnataka traveled special vaccination throughout the state, the majority of the central would use 2ml varieties.
When contacted, KV Trilok Chandra, Health Commissioner, admitted that the supply of syringes from the central government had been suspended.
“Injecting 0.5 ml is supplied by the Indian government and there has been a short supply.
We use our own regular hospital equipment as a stop-gap setting.
We are also in the process of procuring LDS 0.5 ml syringes,” Chandra said.
Over the next three months, Karnataka will need three 0.5ml LDS syringes to achieve the vaccination target over the age of 18 with two doses.
However, Chandra insisted that the use of the 2ml version would not produce a waste of vaccine doses since they came with a sign and health worker could contain exactly 0.5ml vaccine from the bottle.
But officials who work on the ground have very different views.
“In a 2ml syringe, for each dose, one drop will be wasted.
It also depends on vaccinators.
At present we have surpassed zero waste to negative waste by using even additional doses available in each bottle.
There is a possibility of wasting if the needle 2ml injections are used, “another DHO said.
The country has asked the district to do syringes on their own if necessary, but officials say it’s not a decent choice.
“Bulk purchases of 0.5 ml syringes from state governments reduce the cost per syringe to Rs 3 or Rs 4, which will otherwise cost Rs 11,” said an official.
