Kashi appears as a ‘best ganga city’ at Swachh Survekshan

Varanasi: While Indore has been decided as the cleanest city of the country for the fifth consecutive year, Varanasi, parliamentary elections from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once again failed to find a place in 10 cleanest cities at Swachh Survekshan 2021.
However, Varanasi appeared as’ Ganga City Best ‘in Swachh Survekshan.
According to the Swayachh Survekshan results announced by UNION Housing and the Urban Ministry on Saturday, Varanasi secured the 30th position in the national rank of cities that had a population of more than 10 lakh.
The city was left behind behind other cities in Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow (12), Ghaziabad (18), Kanpur (21), Agra (24), Prayagraj (27) and Meerut (27).
In Survekshan this year, the city slipped three steps from Survekshan earlier in 2020, when it was ranked 27th.
In the past, the city was placed ranked 70th in 2019, ranked 29th in 2018, ranked 32nd in 2017 and 65th in the first survekan in 2016.
The city is also left in the clean category of Cantonment, as obtained by the board Varanasi wood ranked 20th among clean cantonment boards.
In the district rank also, Varanasi was placed in 105 position.
The only convenience for citizens and officials is that the city was decided to ‘best’ among Ganga cities.
President Ramnath Kovind gave the trophy and certificate to the Minister of Ashutosh Tandon, Varanasi Major Mridula Jaiswal and Commissioner of Pranay City Singh at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
“This is a matter of pride that Varanasi is recognized as the best ganga city in this country.
The prizes received from the President will inspire use to do better,” said Mayor.
The city commissioner said that it became an important Hajj and tourism center of Varanasi visited by pilgrims and large quantlar members.

In the performance of the city in the national rank, he said that efforts would be made to increase the overall ranking.
Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, cleanliness and sanitation in cities throughout India.
It was launched as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to make India clean and free of defecation.
The first survey was conducted in 2016 and covered 73 cities and in 2021 surveys grew to cover 4,320 cities.
The purpose of this survey is to encourage large-scale citizens’ participation, ensuring the sustainability of the initiative taken against free waste and free of defecation, providing credible results that will be validated by third-party certification, institutionalizing existing systems through the online process and creating awareness between all.
