New Delhi: Kashmir separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani died on Wednesday at the age of 92 in Srinagar after a prolonged illness.
Former Head of Minister J & K Mestbooba Mufti told him about his death on Twitter.
“Sad with news Geelani Sahab died.
We may not agree to most things, but I respect him for his fortitude and stand with his belief.
May Allah Ta’aala give him jannat and condolences into his family and sympathizers,” said Mehbooba on Twitter.
Geelani is the leader of the hardline fraction of Hurriyat.
Geelani was previously a member of Kashmir’s Jamaat-e-Islam but then established his own party with the name Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
He was the MLA of the constituency of Sopore Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and in 1987.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said restrictions including the suspension of internet services would be charged in the valley.
