Kasing rape up to 29% in Odisha in the first half of 2021

Bhubaneswar: Covid-induced locking and the weekend shutdown cannot ensure women’s security because the country witnessed a 29% increase in rape cases in the first half of 2021 compared to the appropriate period in 2020.
According to a written reply in the Assembly by the Minister of State for the house of Shankar Mishra , at all 1,563 rape cases registered in the state between January and June this year.
Although the written reply of the minister does not contain specific crime data from the appropriate six months of 2020, the statistics obtained by TOI from the Odisha police headquarters revealed 1,212 rape cases registered throughout the state between January and June 2020.
The minister’s answer showed a burst in a rape case in several cases last year.
Overall 2,286 rape and 13 cases of rape murder registered in 2015, 2,144 rape and 18 cases of rape murder reported in 2016, 2,221 rape and 18 cases of rape murder in 2017, 2,502 rape and 15 cases of rape murder in 2018, 2,950 cases of rape and rape Nine rape murders in 2019 and 2,984 rape and 11 rape murder cases were registered by 2020, Mishra’s written answer to Loisingha Mla Mahiting BJP read.
According to the minister’s reply, the district Mayurbankan reported 145 rape cases, the highest in the first half of this year.
Police Ganjam Register 81 Rape Cases, Balasore Police 74 Rape Cases, Nabarangpur 70 Cases, Urban Police Bhubaneswar 53 Rape Cases and Urban Police Cuttack registered 36 rape cases in the first six months of this year.
Ladies, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Angul and Kandhamal District reported a case of rape for six months.
Police said sexual violence against women was difficult to prevent because they were mostly carried out by the acquaintances of the victims.
Allegations include friends, relatives and neighbors.
Even though there was a limit on the movement of people and vehicles during locking, such a violation occurred in the house, a senior officer said.
“We took quickly and arrested the defendant immediately after receiving complaints from rape victims.
The government paid compensation to the victims under the Odisha victims’ compensation scheme,” the senior police officer said.
Experts associate the reason for acquaintances in the case of rape to their sick mindset and inadequate vigilance by family members.
“A good educated community can only protect children.
The mindset and perception of people must change against girls and women.
Parents must oversee their children’s movements and activities,” said M Swain, a psychologist.
