Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 5,080 fresh coronavirus infections and 196 deaths on Sunday, raising caseload to 50.89,175 and the toll road to 37,495.
With 7,908 more people recovered from viruses since Saturday, the total recovery crossed 50 lakh to reach 50.04.786 and active cases fell to 58,088, the official press release said.
Of the 196 deaths, 40 reported for the past few days and 156 were designated as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the new central guidelines and the direction of the Supreme Court, the broadcast said.
53,892 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, he said.
Among the 14 districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest with 873 cases followed by Kozhikode (740) and Thiruvananthapuram (621).
From new cases, 24 are health workers, 28 from outside the country and 4,776 were infected through contact with the source unclear at 252.
At present there are 1,92,768 people under supervision in various districts, including 1,87,604 in the quarantine of the house or Institutional and 5,164 in hospitals, add releases.
