Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George said there was a lack of vaccines in the state and had asked the center to provide more earliest doses.
The Minister of Health said the Covishield vaccine stock in six districts was completely over, and only 1.41 doses of lakh left with the state.
Covishield vaccine runs out of stock in Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur Regency.
However, Covaxin is available in all districts, but the stock is also limited.
George said that many people were reluctant to take Covaxin because there were unnecessary concerns.
Both vaccines are equally effective and safe, said the Minister of Health.
The minister said 75% of people over 18 years had been given the first dose of vaccination.
About 27.74% of people in this category also received a second dose.
If 2,15,27,035 people have taken the first dose, then 79,60,935 people have taken the second dose in this age group.
The target has been set to complete the first dose of vaccination for all above 18 years before the end of this month.
However, for this, the country needs more vaccines, and now, we face severe shortcomings.
