New Delhi: The Kerala High Court detained the central government to take coercive actions against the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) under the new IT rules.
The court passed the temporary order in the NBA application that challenged the new rules in the field that they provided an excessive government authority to limit freedom of speech and unreasonable media expressions.
PB of Justice Bench Suresh Kumar stated that “respondents should not take coercive actions against the applicant for the non-compliance of the provisions contained in the rules.” The petition has challenged new rules as an information technology law, 2000 does not contain provisions to handle any program content and therefore, the rules are Ultra Vires.
