New Delhi: The Covid-19 case in India during the weekend which ended Sunday most did not change from Tally seven days before even when infection in Kerala reached a 16-week high of more than 2 lakh.
At the same time, India reported the lowest weekly death toll from the virus in 23 weeks since March 22-28.
There are 2,533 fatalities from Coronavirus for a week, for the first time from March 29 – April 4 that the victim fell below 3,000.
Covid cases continue to be relatively high, especially because of a surge in Kerala.
India recorded more than 2,89,700 new infections in the week (August 30 to September 5), only 0.7% lower than last week’s calculation of 2.91,644.
Kerala recorded 2,00,430 new cases in a week, the highest in 16 weeks since May 10-16 and 69% of the national total.
The last time India had recorded more than 2 lakh cases (within a week ended on Sunday) was 14 weeks ago when Tamil Nadu recorded 2.26 lakh on May 24-30.
However, in the midst of the signs that large Covid waves in Kerala may have peaked, the state recorded a 3.8% surge in a weekly case compared to a surge of 56% last week.
Meanwhile, the death of the virus in India fell with a massive 26% this week because victims in Maharashtra and Odisha fell substantially.
On Sunday, the country reported 219 deaths, for the first time that the daily toll road has dropped under 300 since March 29.
This is the lowest covid victim in 167 days since March 22.
The daily case count fell below 40,000 to 39,571 (with Jharkhand data still awaited), with Kerala reported 26,701 fresh infections.
