Kerala: Idukki, idamalit dam to spill 100 cubic meters per second from today

Thiruvanathapuram / idukki: Leaves of the Idamail and Idukki Dam window will each be appointed slightly at 6am and 11:00, on Tuesday.
The KSEB authorities here on Monday said the decision to drain 100 Putum (cubic meter per second) water from the dam was on prevention records considering the estimated heavy rain for three days from Wednesday.
“The window windows are being picked up a little to provide space for more water inflows to the reservoir, if heavy rains in the coming days,” said B Ashok, Chair of the KSEB and Managing Director.
The flow of water from the dam is 2,500cumecs during the 2018 flood.
For comparison, the current outflow will be very small this time, he said.
The level of water storage in idukki and IDAMALAYA Dams is 93.4% and 90.15% on Monday night.
“This means that the Idukki Dam can contain more than 1,363.86mcm more water before reaching a full reservoir level.
Similarly, idamalayar dams can accommodate more than 917.56mcm more water before the water level in the reservoir touches the FRL level,” Ashok added.
Idukki and Idamalayar Dams are currently on the orange warning and the dam is spilled.
Board officials said there might be a change in the window leaf window operation schedule if an unexpected emergency occurred.
“According to the current plan, people can be given enough time to stay away from the downstream bank of the dam,” KSEB official said.
The Pathanamthitta district government has been given a mandate to decide when to raise the leaves of Pamba Dam scheduled windows on Tuesday.
According to officials, the catchment area of the Idukki Dam and IDAMALAGAs has received very heavy rain.
“Rain in the water catchment area on October 16 and 17 is the highest in the last 50 years,” they said.
The water level at the Idukki reservoir showed a sudden increase of 4.24 feet a day on Saturday and was behind the decision of the sudden official to open the Idukki reservoir window.
KSEB Chief Engineer (Safety Dam Safety and Drip) Supriya S told Ti that the three cheruthoni reservoir windows will be opened 35cm each on Tuesday morning at 11 am.
KSEB officials say about 4.5 lakh electrical connections are affected and most have been restored.
As on Monday, 45,000 connections have not been restored.
Losses for KSEB assessed at RS 17.54 Crore on Monday.
Power connections in some areas have been turned off to prevent more disasters.
