Kerala Logs 19 New Omicron Cases, 11 in Ernakulam

Thiruvananthapuram: More cases of omicrons are detected in the state of the people who arrive from other countries.
On Sunday, 19 more cases were reported in Kerala, taking total calculations to 57.
However, there was no local spread that had been reported.
Among the 19 cases, 11 were in Ernakulam, six in Thiruvananthapuram and one in Thrissur and Kannur.
Of the cases reported in Ernakulam, three have come from England, two of the UAE, two of Ireland and each of Spain, Canada, Qatar and the Netherlands.
In Thiruvananthapuram, the cases were among the people who arrived from England, Ghana and Qatar.
Three other cases are people who are in the contact list of previous detected cases.
Positive casts reported in Thrissur came from the UAE and reportedly in Kannur coming from Sharjah.
All positive cases are isolated in different hospitals from each district.
The contact list of these people has also been traced and they are also isolated, said Health Minister Veena George on Sunday night.
The Minister of Health also said that Kerala was ready to provide a vaccine for all children aged between 15 and 18 years.
The state has demanded the same thing and now the center has also decided to start a drive vaccination among all children from January 3, 2022.
The state government is awaiting this vaccination guideline.
A safe vaccination program will be ascertained for all children in this age group.
It is estimated that there are 15 lakh children in the state included in this age group, he added.
Vaccination campaigns for people over the age of 18 are in the final phase.
Of the total population that qualified for vaccination, 97.58% had taken the first dose of the temporary vaccine 76.67% had taken the second dose.
This is far above the national average.
The national average for the first dose was 89.1% and for the second dose was 61.51%, he said.
In Kerala, there are 5.55 lakh health services, 5.71 lakh frontline workers and 59.29 lakh people over 60 years old.
Among these categories, the level of the first dose vaccination is 100% and the second dose vaccination is 90%.
Booster dose vaccination is very important for these parts and therefore the state is committed to ensuring that these three categories are given a booster dose, he added.
The Minister of Health said that since the center had decided to launch vaccination for children from January 3, those who were above 18 must complete their earliest vaccination.
At present, the state has a stock of 26 doses of lakh vaccine.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported 1,824 new cases from 38,929 samples tested for the past 24 hours.
Among them, 1,598 had taken vaccines and 556 people had not taken it yet.
With 16 deaths again that occurred over the past few days recorded as Covid related and 252 more added to the list of the appeal received, Covid’s total death reached 46,586.
At present, Kerala has 22,691 active cases, where 10% are received in hospitals or other treatment centers.
At the same time, 3,364 patients have recovered.
