Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Wednesday reported 76 fresh omicron cases took the total number of people infected with the new variant Covid-19 to 421, Minister of Health Veena George said here.
A ‘Cluster Omicron’ was formed at a private nursing college in Pathanamthitta where the disease was thought to have spread from a student who was related to someone to arrive from abroad, he said in a statement.
Of the 76 new cases reported on Monday, 15 from the Thrissur District, 13 of Pathanamthitta, 8 from Alappuzha, 8 of Kannur, 6 of Thiruvananthapuram, 6 of Kottayam, 6 of the Malappuram, 5 of Kasaragod and Kasaragod and each at each Wayanad and Ernakulam.
Besides them, someone who comes from Tamil Nadu also reported positive for the Covid-19 variant in the state, he added.
Of these, 59 people infected by Omicron originating from low-risk countries and 7 of high-risk countries, he said adding that as many as 9 people were contracted with diseases through contacts.
The affected people are those who mainly come from UAE, Qatar, Germany, Kuwait, Ireland and Sweden.
With this, Omicron has been confirmed for a total of 421 people in the state.
From them, 290 comes from low-risk countries and 85 of high-risk countries, while three affected people come from neighboring countries.
As many as 43 people were infected through contact, the release said.
