BENGALURU: A 32-year-old man from Kerala was nabbed by Bangalore Customs sleuths at Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday after he attempted to smuggle in gold and foreign cigarettes worth over Rs 23.2 lakh from Dubai.
Sources with the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs said the suspect landed at the airport on Emirates flight EK 564 from Dubai in the morning and sleuths intercepted him following passenger profiling.
The passenger from Kasaragod failed to provide convincing answers to the Customs officers, following which they frisked him, and a search of his baggage was conducted.
The officers unearthed two crude gold chains weighing 399.2 grams worth over Rs 18 lakh and 150 cartons of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 3.9 lakh.
It was established that the suspect had flown to the Gulf from Mangaluru airport on March 7.
