Kerala: more than 2,500% increase in Covid death registration in the second wave

Thiruvananthapuram: Registration of Covid-19 Death in Local Agencies in the state issued at alarming speed during the second wave, ranging from 404 Covid deaths a month to more than 10,000 registration of death in May, according to RTI data on death.
The peak is astronomical, more than 2,000% in three months.
At the same time, the official health department data shows that the situation is quite large under control.
Between March and May, the official death toll during the second wave was only around 4,500.

The Ministry of Health, overwhelmed by an uncontrolled wave, almost lost the count of people who died because of Covid-19, which reflected differences in 7,095 deaths between the registration figures and official data of the Ministry of Health.
The severity of death in May, as shown in registration figures, in such a way that more than 30% of the total death registration in 10 districts in May is due to Covid-19.
Palakkad contributed the highest percentage of Covid’s death registration in May.
As many as 41% of the total death registration in Palakkad in May Covid’s death, followed by Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam with the registration of 40% Covid death.
In the district like Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki, more than 35% of the total death registration are Covid deaths.
The covid death registration pattern in the local body changed drastically in 2021 when compared to 2020, which might result in such a large difference.
In 2020, the difference was minimal – 3,072 deaths were officially declared and 2,347 deaths were registered as Covid fatality.
In 2021, the official declaration was carried out for the death of 10,163 covid.
However, local bodies in the country registered 17,237 Covid deaths until June.
Officials say that there is usually a delay between the date of death and registration date except in some local bodies and even in that number, the number of Covid death registration has issued an official number in 2021.
