Kerala: Online game addiction brings a child’s life

ThiruvananThapuram: The parents of a 14-year-old boy who were found dead at home two weeks ago in unnatural circumstances had claimed that their son was addicted to video games, which influenced his mental well-being and finally took him to take his own life.
Shanavas’s parents and Sajeena from Chirayinkezu have told the media that they found about addiction to the online game only after his death, when they checked the cellphone they gave him to the online class.
Sabith their son was found dead on November 8, hung in his room.
The police have taken their cellphones as part of an investigation.
However, the phone was returned to parents after they asked for him.
After that parents find their son’s online games collection locked in a folder secured by the password.
Parents also tell the media that they have spoken so that other parents will assume this as a warning and take the steps needed to ensure that their ward is safe from the addictive game.
After this revelation, police officials on Wednesday visited the couple and took back telephones for detailed scientific examinations.
They say that the phone will be sent to cyber experts to be examined.
The police had acted after the prosecutors in the department directed the local police to investigate whether the accusations made by the parents of the boy were right.
The senior department official also argued that local police should not give the phone back to parents instead of sending them to scientific experts.
Meanwhile, the sources in the police also said that parents should not make this comment without scientifically confirming their doubts.
“The boy has not left a clue about the actual reason behind his death.
The reason can be anything like a personal problem or even cyber harassment when children spend most of their time online,” said an officer who did not want to be named.
