Kerala: Property worth Rs 4 Crore destroyed in 5 years

Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 7,318 cases have been registered and public property worth more than Rs 4 Crore has been destroyed in the state in the last five years in connection with various anti-government protests, according to statistics.
According to assembly records, property worth Rs 4.01.34,242 has been destroyed in the country in connection with various anti-government protests in the state.
The government has also registered a case against MLA T Siddique and former Mola K Sarinathan, Eldho Abraham and P K Abdu Rabb in connection with this protest.
In accordance with the evaluation of destruction, more than half of the destruction occurred in 2017, when RS 2.04 Crore worth of public property was destroyed.
The state has registered 838 cases, where there are 4,470 defendants for the destruction of public property in that period.
85 was accused of being punished in these cases until now.
In 2017 he had witnessed several intense agitation of the LDF government, especially when the Pinarayi government first celebrated his first year in the office.
Youth organizations from Congress and BJP, opposition parties, – South Congress and Yuva Morcha – have taken agitation of the government for “anti-person policy”.
This year has also witnessed protests against Gail Pipe Projects, especially in the northern district such as Malappuram and Kozhikode.
Close to 100 hartals called by various other political and non-political organizations in this country quoted some problems in 2017.
Interestingly, it was not only by two opposition opposition in the state that appeared with protests, but the LDF was in power too.
LDF has protested widely to subjects that quote subjects such as the prohibition of beef in 2017.
Interestingly, when anti-government protests are at its peak at the end of 2018 and 2019, after the Sabarimala verdict and related problems, the destruction of public property is relatively lower.
In 2018, public property worth RS 71.61 Lakh was destroyed, while it was pegged at RS 67.08 Lakh in 2019.
In 2016, the year when the LDF government took over, the destruction was quantified at Rs 31.83 Lakh.
In 2020, the numbers were low compared to four other years, thanks to Covid-19, although even Covid could not fully end the actions that were difficult to arrange.
Public property worth Rs 17.25 Lakh was destroyed by 2020, while until August this year, the destruction of property worth Rs 9.5 lakh has been reported.
As a deterrent, the government in 2019, arises with laws on the destruction, which prohibits those who participate in communal, hartal riots, bandh demonstrations, marches, procession, road blockade or assembly, from destroying public property.
Criminal provisions for this action are five-year prisons and fines.
