Thiruvananthapuram: After registering more than 45,000 Covid-19 daily cases over the past few days, Kerala on Monday recorded a new 26,514 and took the total affected total at 56,46,665.
It reported 45,449 cases on Sunday while there were 45,136 new cases the next day.
On January 20, there were 46,387 cases, the highest single-day surge since the Pandemic outbreak in 2020.
The Ministry of Health said 55,557 samples were tested in the last 24 hours which seem to explain the low number of current positive cases.
The state has full locking on Sundays and limited testing.
On Sundays, the country reported more than 45,000 cases after testing 1,01,252 samples on Saturday.
“At present, there are 2,60,271 active Covid-19 cases which are only 3.8 percent hospitalized,” said the Ministry of Health in a press release.
The country recorded 171 fatalities and took the dead to 51,987.
Among the latest fatality, 13 was recorded over the last few days while 158 was designated as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the new central guidelines and the direction of the Supreme Court.
Among the district, Ernakulam recorded the highest number of cases today – 4,443 followed by Thiruvananthapuram 3.256 and Kozhikode 2,979 cases.
There were 4.31,176 people under observation, where 10,038 was an isolation foundation of various hospitals.
Meanwhile, 30,710 people were recovered from this disease and took a total of recovery up to 53,56,642.
