Othiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 infection in Kerala on Tuesday witnessed a steep increase because the country reported 28,481 new positive cases took the number of infections to 54.07.312.
Kerala reported 22,946 cases on Monday.
The Minister of Health of Veena George said the state had tested 80,740 samples in the last 24 hours and there were more than 1.42 lakh covid-19 cases in the state.
On Tuesday, Kerala reported 122 deaths took victims in the state to 51,026.
Among the current deaths, 39 were recorded over the past few days and 83 were appointed as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the new central guidelines and the direction of the Supreme Court.
“At present, there are 1,42,512 cases of Covid-19 active in only 3.4 percent in hospitals,” said the Ministry of Health in the release.
Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram reported 6,911 cases, followed by Ernakulam with 4,013 and Kozhikode with 2,967.
Of those found infected today, 165 reached the country from outside the interim 27,522 contracted disease from their contacts.
Source of infection 579 has not been traced.
A total of 215 health workers were also infected.
Meanwhile, 7,303 people recovered from infection on Tuesday took a total of recovery in the state to 52.36.013.
The Minister also informed that 99.8 percent (2,66,57,881) of the targeted population had been given with the first dose of the interim vaccine 83 percent (2,20,61,640) had received the two doses.
