Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported the first case of an infected Zika virus on Thursday after a 24-year-old pregnant woman from Prassala near Thiruvananthapuram was tested positive for this disease.
It was studied that of the 19 samples sent for testing to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, 13 had tested the positive Zika virus.
All 13 samples were sent from Thiruvananthapuram.
The woman, has been tested positively stable infection and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The doctors at the hospital said because this virus did not threaten the soul, there was no need to be a concern.
The woman was treated with fever, headache, and rash above her body.
The doctors said all precautions were taken.
Similar symptoms were reported from 19 people whose samples were sent to NIV.
Health officials say that infections are controlled by taking adequate breaks.
In fact, there is no antivirus treatment or vaccine against the Zika virus at this time.
The best prevention method is to avoid mosquito bites during the day.
However, this virus is harmful to pregnant women because they can continue the virus to feotus which can cause defects in infants.
Symptoms are similar to dengue fever and chikungunya.
Usually, the symptoms occur in two to seven days after being bitten by mosquitoes.
The virus incubation period is three to 14 days.
Symptoms include mild fever, headaches, muscle pain and joints, nausea, vomiting, and general malaise.
