Kerala reports 34,199 fresh covid-19 cases

Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 infection in Kerala continued to witness a steep increase as the country on Wednesday recorded 34,199 fresh positive cases, taking infections counted to 54.41,511.
The state has reported 28,481 cases on Tuesday.
The State Health Department said the state had tested 91,983 samples in the last 24 hours and there were 1.68 cases of covid-19 lakh.
On Wednesday, Kerala recorded 134 deaths, took the victim to 51,160.
Among the current deaths, 49 were recorded over the past few days and 85 were designated as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the new central guidelines and the direction of the Supreme Court.
“At present, there are 1,68,383 Covid-19 cases active in the state which is only 3.2 percent hospitalized,” said the Ministry of Health in the release.
Among the districts, Ernakulam reported 5,953 new cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 5,684 and Kozhikode with 3,386.
Of those found infected today, 125 reached the country from outside the interim 33,195 contracted disease from their contacts.
Source of infection 596 has not been traced.
A total of 283 health workers were also infected.
Meanwhile, 8,193 people recovered from infection on Wednesday, took a total of recovery up to 52.44,206.
