Thiruvananthapuram: Close on the heel of the State Irrigation Department who started the work of the Mangalam Dam Desilting Dam in Palakkad, the State Electricity Council of Kerala (KSEB) has also decided to carry out a reservoir desiled by the Board.
As part of this step, KSEB has prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) which will be followed by the Board to carry out the work of Desobiling.
More than the process of selling sand and sediments seized from the reservoir bed, desilting will help the reservoir get back their original storage capacity.
According to sources close to the development on the Board, KSEB will soon begin to ratify work in small and medium dams.
KSEB has prepared SOP based on the sewn together by the irrigation department some time ago.
However, the board adjusts to add and negligence that is relevant to the Board.
KSEB will seek technical assistance to profitable work from various state and central government institutions and IIT Palakkad and Nit Kozhikode.
According to the SPO, based on the volume of sediments to be removed from the dam, the duration of the desilting work will take 36 to 48 months.
Instead of the Dam Safety Authority as in the Dam case under the Department of Irrigation, Desilting work in the reservoir below KSEB will be monitored by the board itself.
In the light of the experience that the irrigation department has emerged from the work of Mangalam Dam, KSEB has discarded one of the terms incorporated in the Department of Irrigation SOP that there are no stalkers / processing of the leased materials into the reservoir / project area.
