Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time, two domestic travelers from Tamil Nadu to Kollam have tested the positive Omicron.
Until now only international travelers and their contacts were tested positively for new variants in the state.
According to Kollam District Health Administration, the two people were tested positive in random sampling and samples sent for genome sequencing as routine affairs.
However, this sample was positively tested for a new variant in the sequence of the genome.
Both have been isolated in government hospitals and their contact lists are tracked.
The country reported 23 omicron cases again on Saturday, took the total Omicron case to 328.
Among the cases reported today, 16 people came from low-risk countries and four of the high-risk countries.
One person has tested positively in Thiruvananthapuram through contact.
Among the cases reported, 11 came from Thiruvananthapuram, four of Kollam, three of Kottayam and each of the Alappuzha, Thrishikode and Kozhikode.
Of the total of 328 cases reported, 225 people came from low-risk countries and 68 of high-risk countries.
Cases of 33 and two contacts come from other countries.
