Ranchi: 38 Death in lightning in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in the last 24 hours has become a sharp focus of Jharkhand, who believes in weather scientists, is susceptible to lightning strikes due to heights.
Nearly 150-200 deaths occur every year due to lightning strikes, even after warning on time by the weather office.
“During our study, we found that Jharkhand, was in the highlands and was surrounded by water or tall trees insulated in the open field, attracted lightning,” said weather scientist at Birsa Agricultural University, Dr.
Abdul Wadood, who heads the identification of lightning Sensitive area in the state.
Wadood believes that the most important part is creating awareness in rural areas.

Wadood also shows that many minerals can play a role in attracting lightning but there are no special studies with hydrology or minerology that have been carried out.
“Even though we have created a map of lightning, it was found that the warning publishers had no help unless people knew about DOS and should not be done,” Wadood refers to the death of 11 people in various parts of the country on July 4.

Acting Director of Ranchi IMD, Abhishek Anand, said that the meteorological department has the latest equipment and sensors to predict lightning well.
“We have published a warning every time there is a storm opportunity,” he said.
Convener of Lightning Resilient India Campaign, Col Sanjay Srivastava, agreed that awareness played an important role in avoiding death from lightning.
He marked Vajrapat Jagructa Rath with Deputy Commissioner Ranchi Chhavi Ranjan on July 7 to create awareness in rural areas of Ranchi.
“The Indian Resilient lightning campaign is supported by IMD, Minister of Earth, UNICEF, Red and Red Cross,” he said.

“During our study, we found that 65-70 percent of the deaths occurred due to lightning related to shelter under the tree,” he said.
