Kolkata: Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee on Thursday rejected an attempt to “find another meaning” on August 16 ‘Khela Hobe Difas’ by reminding that on the day in 1980, because all football lovers in Bengal remembrance, a tragedy took place in Eden Gardens during Derby where 16 lives are lost.
Banerjee said ‘Khela Hobe Diawas’ will be a sports and sportsman celebration, and “award for all sports lovers”.
BJP has accused the celebration of August 16 to have parallel to the live action on August 16, 1946.
On August 16, 1980, 16 people who came to watch the Bengal-Mohun Bagan Derby in Eden had lost their lives Stampede.
In Maidan, and elsewhere, observed soccer day lovers.
On Wednesday, during the Martyr’s Day speech July 21, CM Banerjee announced August 16 as ‘Khela Hobe Diwas’, drawing a Duri directly from BJP on his date.
“August 14 is Kanyashree Diwas, August 15 is Independence Day, August 16 will be Khela Hobe dijwas,” CM said.
“On that day, 1 football lakh will be distributed.
The Joyee ball will be distributed to all clubs across the state, including 283 clubs related to IFA,” said Banerjee and added that the Ifa club would each get 10 soccer.
As many as 50,000 football-football will be the Joyee brand, handmade by non-governmental groups and Bengali detainees under the State Refugee Craft Unit (RH).
These soccer are named by CM Banerjee.
