Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered matching DNA samples taken from the BJP trade union leader who was killed by Abhijit Sarkar and his brother after the latter could not “identify the body of his sister after the second autopsy was more than two months after the murder.
Abhijit was killed on May 2 as a wave of violence after the poll made Bengal.
The five judges ordered DNA testing after the additional lawyer General Y Jinjior handed himself that Brother Abhijit, Bisang Sarkar, had “expressed his inability to identify the body due to poor conditions” after the second autopsy.
The same bench has ordered repeat autopsy on July 2 after the Abhijit family questioned the first findings.
Dastoor said the sample for DNA analysis was taken from Abhijit’s body.
Bisang’s advisor, Mahesh Jethmalani, said his client was ready to provide samples for matching DNA to confirm the identity of the body.
The bench directed that the sample was collected from bissyari in Command Hospital at 11 o’clock in the morning on July 15.
The court also directed Director of the Center for Centers, Kolkata, to match the sample DNA “on the basis of the priority” and submit a report “on the sealed cover” in a week.
The court will hear the case on July 22.
