Kirpan NSW Govt Controversy Controversy

Amritsar: New Kirpan (one of the five symbols of Sikh) introduced by the New South Wales (NSW) government in Australia has provided controversy after Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) praised the policy.
The policy raised a prohibition in Kirpan in schools by baptizing Sikh students.
SGPC President Aunt Jagir Kaur said, “Simply gladly that the NSW Ministry of Education has enabled Sikh children to study in schools to wear Kirpan”.
Without entering the policy details he said that Kakkar (Sikh’s religious symbol) was an important and integral part of the life initiated by Sikh and the prohibition used was not tolerable.
On the other hand, Balpreet Singh Boparai, legal counsel, WSO, Canada said on Saturday “The new Kirpan policy was introduced by the NSW Ministry of Education fundamentally changing the nature of Kirpan by requiring no more than 8.5 cm (3.34 inches.) and don’t have a sharp edge or point “.
In particular, Sikh who was baptized wore a 6-inch KIRPAN which was an integral part of 5K from Sikhism and at the time of baptism, every Sikh was taught how to take care of 5 k’s.
The NSW government has imposed a prohibition in Kirpan by Sikh students at school on May 6, after a Sikh student who was baptized with 14 years from Glenwood High School, Sydney, NSW, had stabbed a 16-year-old male student with Kirpan twice in his stomach .
According to the new policy of the Government NSW Education Department for Kirpan at school, Sikh students can wear miniature KIRPAN 8.5cm or smaller without the edge or a sharp point, it must be subject to underwear and guaranteed, it cannot be used by KIRPAN must be removed and stored with Safe, or guaranteed with the body when doing physical activity such as sports.
Thus, the Sikh Oz group has given their approval to new guidelines about wearing Kirpan by baptizing Sikh school students.
Reacting to Kirpan’s new Policy Tejinder Singh Sidhu, President WSO, Canada said “The NSW School Kirpan policy cannot be accepted by the Sikh Community.
This is an unreasonable violation of the Sikh Community Rights.
Kirpan without the advantage or tip is no longer Kirpan.
